Editing & Revising & Rewriting (Oh, my!)

I am perhaps in the most tedious and frustrating phase of my first book. The editing, the revising, the rewriting. Trying to take my manuscript and conform it to the rules of grammar, diction and punctuation while still trying to stay true to the story. The rearranging of words to improve the flow without sacrificing personal style.

Any writer who does this work themselves - and tells you it's not that bad - is lying.

Creating the story is the easy part. Fun, even. It's letting your imagination run wild and putting words on paper. The polishing of said story...not so much. The end result is (usually) worth it.

Don't get me wrong. I know it's a necessary part of the process to get my book ready for potential publication. It's part of paying my dues. I can't really complain, since it's a step in the direction of making a dream come true. I just wish that there was a way to make it a little more fun. Maybe I could get a little reward or treat for finishing a predetermined amount of editing. Say...if I edit ten pages, I get chocolate. The good stuff (we're talking Godiva here, folks).

Yeah.....chocolate. I like that idea. :)

Till next time,

H.C.
